Shayne Melkis
Hello Everyone!
My name is Shayne and I live on a small cattle property at Morinish an old gold mining and cattle grazing area an hour north west of Rockhampton.
A passionate, down to earth, resourceful , open minded lateral thinker with common sense and the ability to learn, I listen with understanding, empathy and caring due to my varied life experiences. I have raised five children (all now with careers) to tertiary level education, and as a single parent, for a number of years.
My interests and education have included such diverse areas as teaching, accounting and law, cattle showing and breeding, horse riding, lapidary, telephone counselling, presenting on Community radio, real estate, shares, tennis ,books, psychology, and maximizing the potential of every human being.
Having obtained my first passport whilst working as clerk in the Department of Immigration, back in 1972, I have travelled extensively around Asia and the Pacific
Whilst married, I was fortunate to live in Taipei, Taiwan for 18 months with four children. I have experienced culture shock and the hassles encountered in a different country. In June 2010, I fulfilled my dream of an extensive five week tour of the major capitals, including London, Paris, Madrid, Rome, and Vienna, and countries of Europe, stopping at Dubai on the way home. I was fortunate to attend the 2012 Toastmasters International Convention in Orlando and visited several American cities, including New Orleans.
I have been active in various animal breed societies, tennis and pony clubs, and community organizations. I have helped organize shows, field days, and art exhibitions. I enjoyed being a presenter with Community Radio Station 4YOU for three years until a year ago.
Having been a member of Rockhampton Boomerang Toastmasters since 2009 I have achieved my ALB and HPL. I have been privileged to serve as Area 4 Governor for 2012-2013 and 2013-2014. With the support of members, I am in the process of sponsoring another club near Rockhampton.
The motivation for my candidature for Central Division Governor is for my own self development as well as to serve as a leader in providing motivation, guidance and supervision to others to help them fulfil their roles and responsibilities.
