Eastern Division Conference 2019
17 March 2019
What is the Eastern Division Conference (EDCon)?
Once per year, all 30 clubs from the Brisbane southside come together for a day of community, speaking contests and education. You will see all four speaking contests where the winners from each Area contest put on their best show. There is also an educational speaker on the day and plenty of opportunity to have fun with a room full of people with the common goal of wanting to better themselves.
So, why should I go?
Any long-standing member of your club will be able to tell you how enjoyable these annual events are. Conferences foster a wonderful sense of community and there is no audience as supportive as a room full of Toastmasters; it’s such a fabulous energy to be around. You’ll see just how un-scary contest speaking can be and you can introduce yourself to someone you’ve never met, who has the same hobby as you. Perhaps invite them to visit your club and see if you can visit theirs. This is prime time to enrich and immerse yourself in the wider Toastmasters experience.
What happens at the conference?
Some of Brisbane’s best speakers will compete in the four contests – International, Humorous, Table Topics and Evaluation.
The Eastern Division Council meeting will be held and will be an excellent example of how a business meeting can be run quickly (I promise!), well, and with a few laughs.
This is a beautiful opportunity to learn from seeing these members perform. A keynote speaker will also present and we’ll have some time for socialising too. Morning tea and lunch will be provided.
A detailed agenda will be available soon. The team organising the conference are energetic, organised and efficient, and want everyone to have the best possible time.
Spread the word in your club and make sure your buddies are aware of this day and come along too (events are always better with friends!). You may even have someone from your club in a contest so make sure they have a big cheer squad. Pom poms optional but encouraged!
