On November 1st 1985, twenty two enthusiastic public speakers launched their new club, Nambour Toastmasters. The club recently celebrated their 35th anniversary! In attendance were two of the Charter Members, International Director Lesley Storkey, Immediate Past Region 12 Advisor & Current Club President Coral McVean, District Director Barbara Nielsen, Past President and Current Member Shane Kropp, Past President Phyl Dodd, Visitors Sue and Ian Pinker, along with a host of Past Presidents, and Current and Past Members. For Charter Member Gerhard Sliwa it was a double celebration. Gerhard turned ninety one years young that same day!

From the start of the meeting the excitement levels were running high as members past and present caught up to share stories. The two charter members, Laurie and Gerhard, spoke of how the club was formed. Past Presidents shared their experiences of encouragement, leadership, motivation and support. A common theme among Past Presidents was that club leadership was the most rewarding role they had undertaken. Everyone in the room was afforded the opportunity to share their own personal stories of how Nambour Toastmasters had positively influenced their lives.

A sumptuous supper was enjoyed by all, the highlight of which was a beautifully decorated cake, cut by Shirley and Pauline.

Toastmasters International founder Ralph Smedley said that ‘we learn best in moments of enjoyment.’ Nambour Toastmasters Club certainly lives up to that motto.
