The Secret?

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Toastmasters Week is finally here and we’ve kicked it off with a short, fun, promotional video compliments of Eric Pace.

Do you remember playing tip as a child? Well a similar concept applies here so pass on the clip to your clubs and to your friends or co-workers, you might just attract a new member to your club.

Library Display

This is what Area 33 has done for Toastmasters Week. The local library has given us a spot for 3 weeks and I have attached photos of what the display looks like.

Library Display

Friday, February 12th, 2010

We have a display in the Beenleigh library with photos of some members, the room where we meet and some magazines, ribbons etc. There are of course, contact details and where and when we meet.

  • The club has been doing this library display for a few years and so far we have gained a few members from it.
  • One member moved from Roma several years ago and was told there was no club close to where he was moving. Disappointed, he was visiting the Beenleigh library one day and saw the display. Now he is club secretary.

If we don’t get any immediate members I’m sure that the community will be more aware of Toastmasters as a result of the display.

Bring a Friend Frenzy

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Kilcoy Toastmasters got in a little early with the ‘Talk Up Toastmasters Week’ doing the following things in the past 2 weeks:

  • We attended the Australia Day Festival in Kilcoy and MC’d a section of the event, we also put a team in for the Kilcoy Challenge to get further coverage and we put toastmasters flyers on the windscreens of 60 cars.
  • Last Meeting 3rd Feb we promoted a ‘Bring a Friend Frenzy‘ night. We had 5 guests! 3 of which said they would definitely be back at the next meeting & 2 are thinking about it.

Combined Effort in Inverell

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Both the Clubs here in Inverell would combine efforts to promote TM Week.

Demonstration Meeting

The Inverell Toastmasters Club will be conducting a Demonstration Meeting at the local Rotunda which is in the Park. This event will happen on Monday 25th Feb and will be followed by supper.

Soap Box

The Inverell Breakfast Club will be conducting a “Soap Box” at the Markets in the Park on Sunday 21st Feb. We decided to do it at the Markets to get maximum exposure for Toastmasters.

Both events will be advertised in the local paper and on the radio.

Toastmasters on Public Transport

Friday, February 12th, 2010

What about everyone getting on public transport during Toastmasters week and giving impromptu speeches and table topic sessions?

So scary I know, but if there were a few of you together it wouldn’t be too bad.

  • If we had a bunch of flyers, or invitations, or even just the website on a scrap of paper to hand out I think we would gain soooo many members!
  • Can you imagine it… there you are peacefully enjoying your train/bus/ferry ride to work and all of a sudden someone with a Toastmasters badge on stands up and requests your attention:
  • Good morning everyone, Can you help me? I am a Toastmaster and I am practicing a speech for Toastmasters Week, if you will indulge me and maybe give me some feedback on my speech please? (here’s where your team members say “Yes, sure, OK” in appropriately loud voices)
  • Then you give your best speech (even if you are the most nervous you have ever been)… then it’s your team mates turn, same thing… then table topics (in loud voices) and ask those around you to join in… then another speech.
  • How cool would that be? We may even get coverage on the news if we did it all over for the entire week. Especially if we kinda mentioned it to them :)

Any volunteers, give me a call 0407 103 943 or leave a message on 07 5564 6142 or email jackiehamilton@hotmail.com and I will coordinate.
