The Secret?

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Toastmasters Week is finally here and we’ve kicked it off with a short, fun, promotional video compliments of Eric Pace.

Do you remember playing tip as a child? Well a similar concept applies here so pass on the clip to your clubs and to your friends or co-workers, you might just attract a new member to your club.

Toastmasters Week in St George Club

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010
  • St George Toastmasters is taking part in the Meet & Greet for the whole town of St George hosted by the local shire council on the Thursday evening of Toastmasters Week.
  • All organisations are invited to have a “stall” to “sell” their organisation to new members of the community. Last year we also did this – using the March to May Madness material and gained two new members as a result.
  • The tables are set up in the Cultural Centre and information is provided to people as they stop and talk to people on each stall.
  • We are replenishing our supplies ourselves this year (especially the lollies) as they were a great drawcard! Hopefully we will again be successful.

Toastmasters Week in Eastern Division

Monday, February 15th, 2010

We all put notices and information in our libraries. For my own clubs, Crest and Browns Plains have this in hand.

Have also put a notice in the combined lunchroom of a city high rise building (HQ of Volunteering Qld plus many other offices on its 13 floors).

Eastern is following up the district promotion of Toastmasters Week with about quarter million shop-a-dockets hard copies in several centres, plus other suburbs linked to their advertising site via postcode connections. This runs on into March and April, with a less formal message than the usual TMI flyers that we hope is appropriate for Queensland (see below)

This is the design to appear on about quarter million hard dockets, together with 5 internet links to the postcodes of our eastern governors for searches to the shop-a-docket site. Trust it gets us some new members.

Also, for Toastmasters Week, in the belief that a personal invitation is always good, I ran off a selection of Ron Stefan’s fun animal invitations and Charlie’s Time ones to allow every member at my home club to take one to their work place and add their own name and contact, to encourage “bring along a personal guest” to the next meeting.

TRAINING AND INFORMATION AFTERNOON (with wine  & snacks) for  ALL members (and guests interested about Toastmasters are welcome also) Sunday Feb 21st, 1-5pm, St. Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace, Brisbane.

Library Display

Friday, February 12th, 2010

We have a display in the Beenleigh library with photos of some members, the room where we meet and some magazines, ribbons etc. There are of course, contact details and where and when we meet.

  • The club has been doing this library display for a few years and so far we have gained a few members from it.
  • One member moved from Roma several years ago and was told there was no club close to where he was moving. Disappointed, he was visiting the Beenleigh library one day and saw the display. Now he is club secretary.

If we don’t get any immediate members I’m sure that the community will be more aware of Toastmasters as a result of the display.
