Become a Member

It’s easy to become a member of Toastmasters! Every club warmly welcomes new members, and is keen to help their members overcome their fear of public speaking. Here’s what you should do if you’re interested in being a member of Toastmasters.

Anyone aged 18 years and over may join Toastmasters.

1.     Visit a club

The most difficult step is always the first. Summon the courage to attend your first meeting and see if Toastmasters is for you.

Every club is different. They differ in size, culture, types of venues, meeting times and meal arrangements, so shop around to find a club which suits you and your lifestyle.

For most clubs it is free to attend as a guest. Some clubs meet over a meal, and you will likely be asked to cover the cost of the meal if this is the case.

With over 180 Clubs in Queensland, Northern New South Wales, the Northern Territory and Norfolk Island, there is sure to be a club near you!

2.     Do the Paperwork

Fill in a membership form and hand it into a member at the club you decide upon.

It is likely the club will give you a form when you visit, but if you’re curious download the Form 400 Membership Application and take a look.

3.     Pay the Membership Fee

Toastmasters, in comparison with various public speaking courses, seminars, programs, mp3 and DVD kits, is the least expensive and the most effective way to learn public speaking and to develop confidence and self-esteem in the public arena.

While Clubs charge their fees in various ways, the ongoing cost to belong to Toastmasters is approximately $100 per year. New members also pay a once off joining fee of about $50.

Once you have submitted your application form, the club you have chosen will then formally vote you into their club and accept your membership fee. Many clubs also conduct an induction ceremony, where you will be presented with a New Member’s Kit.
